Norwegian words you’ll see around the app

The app uses Norwegian labels to keep you immersed. Here are the ones most likely to confuse you at first.

SRS
Spaced Repetition System — flashcards that reappear right before you forget them.
Bøying
Conjugation. "Verb bøying" = verb conjugation practice.
Genus
Grammatical gender. Norwegian nouns are en (masculine), ei (feminine), or et (neuter).
Uttale
Pronunciation.
Norskprøven
The official Norwegian language exam required for residency and citizenship.
Dugnad
A uniquely Norwegian tradition of community volunteer work — neighbors cleaning the shared yard together.
Matpakke
The Norwegian packed lunch — usually open-faced sandwiches wrapped in paper.
Hytte
Cabin or cottage, often in the mountains or by the sea. Central to Norwegian weekends.
Friluftsliv
"Open-air life" — the Norwegian love of spending time outdoors in all weather.
